Polyethylene

It is one of the most common plastics due to its simplicity in its manufacture, which generates a production of approximately 80 million tons per year in the world. It is chemically inert. It is obtained from the polymerization of ethylene. Process and applications:

Polypropylene

Belonging to the group of polyolefins, it is a thermoplastic polymer, partially crystalline, obtained from the polymerization of propylene. It is used in a wide variety of applications including food packaging, fabrics, laboratory equipment, automotive components and transparent films. It has great resistance against various chemical solvents, as well as against alkalis and acids.

Types:

  • Homopolymer: PP obtained from the polymerization of pure propylene.
  • Copolymer: When adding between 5 and 30% of ethylene in the polymerization, a copolymer is obtained that has greater impact resistance than the PP homopolymer.
    Random and impact
    EPDM Terpolymer: a third component of the diene type is added (Butadiene, for example) the result is an elastomer or rubber of Ethylene-Propylene, called EPDM.

EVA

Ethylvinylacetate (known as EVA rubber, foamy, EVA foam) is a thermoplastic polymer. It is a material that does not replace any known, but on the contrary, complements it.

Ethylvinylacetate is a thermoplastic type polymer. In the presentation of sheets of different thicknesses and sizes, its most significant characteristics are:

  • Easy to paste.
  • Easy to cut
  • Easy to paint.
  • Low water absorption.
  • Washable.
  • Not toxic.
  • Very light.
  • It can be recycled or incinerated.
  • Easy to mold to heat.
  • Pyrography

 

Applications

  • Shoe soles.
  • Footwear (sandals for daily or bath use).
  • Toys.
  • Hot melt adhesives (colloquially known as hot silicone).
  • Mattresses.
  • Home furniture.
  • Kindergartens.

EPS

Expandable polystyrene (EPS) is a foamed plastic material, derived from polystyrene and used in the container and construction sector. It stands out for its hygiene because it does not constitute a nutritive substrate for microorganisms. So it means, it does not rot, it does not mold or decompose, it is ideal for fresh products. In supermarkets you can find trays in the sections of ice cream, fish, butchery, fruits and vegetables. Other noteworthy features are its lightness, resistance to moisture and ability to absorb impacts. The latter makes it an excellent conditioner for fragile or delicate products such as electrical appliances and electrical components. Other applications of expanded polystyrene (EPS) is in construction, as a lightening material or as a thermal insulator; also in facades, roofs, moldings, floor, etc.
